Oakland Piedmont Ave Homes For Sale

Oakland's Piedmont Avenue neighborhood is one of the few in Oakland that offers many historic and long established businesses for its local residents.  Beginning back at the turn of the 20th Century, homeowners from Piedmont, and the immediate neighborhood, began their daily commute to Oakland and San Francisco on the historic C Line Key Route trains.  Arriving home in the evening at the 41st Street Station on the Avenue, the passengers could shop at the many stores that surrounded the terminal there.  The present Piedmont Grocery, famous for its gourmet foods, meat market and seafood, established itself in 1902, and sustains its reputation for personal service for Avenue shoppers.  Another popular and long sustaining venue is Fenton's Creamery.  They have been visited by generations of children and families anticipating their famous ice cream sundaes, shakes and famous crab sandwiches since 1961. Many went from Fenton's up the street a bit to the Piedmont Avenue Cinema, still as busy and popular today as it was decades ago.

Other popular restaurants have been developed to meet the needs of the immediate neighborhood and commuters, while  long term restaurants help maintain Piedmont's Avenue's reputation, especially the unique Gaylord's Caffe Espresso, and the highly rated Bay Wolf Restaurant. Other unique businesses include Piedmont Springs, furnishing an outdoor redwood hot tub and a Finnish sauna. To maintain the theme is the Piedmont Yoga Studio which offers a large variety of classes for students of all ages and physical conditions. The nearby Upper and Lower Rockridge neighborhoods add to the choices.

History continues at the top of Piedmont Avenue with the famous Chapel of the Chimes designed by Julia Morgan, and the Mountain View Cemetery designed by famous Frederick Law Olmstead.  Some of the most famous people from the past who lived and worked in and around the and San Francisco Bay area are buried here.  They include the Ghiradelli family, the Bechtel family, Charles Crocker, Bernard Maybeck, and of course, Julia Morgan.  For those interested, very informative tours are available to the public during the year.
