 Alameda Luxury Homes

Alameda is unique in the Bay area communities in that it is situated on an island. It is located immediately adjacent to Oakland.  The majority of its luxury homes are to be found in the area around Grand Street, in what is called Alameda's " Gold Coast ".   These homes were built by wealthy businessmen and merchants from approximately 1890-1920.   Intended to be showplaces, these homes were often designed by well known architects, and featured classical lines.  Victorian, Arts and Crafts, Spanish Colonial and Colonial Revival are but a few of the styles represented.

Alameda Luxury Homes

These handsome homes had much in common.  Because they were often designed for entertaining, most featured spacious living rooms, a formal dining room, a large yard, and a roomy kitchen and pantry.  Upstairs areas included at least 3-4 bedrooms, and often a sitting room.

Today's versions of these homes carry through these themes, but with upgraded kitchens offering granite counters, a complete range of appliances, and handsome flooring.  Many have installed exercise or entertainment rooms.
