This year, there is no reason for Piedmont residents to go out of town to celebrate New Year's Eve. The Piedmont Center For The Arts is presenting, for the first time, a Musical New Year's Eve Party.  They are encouraging residents to bring their children, their neighbors and their friends to come and celebrate together at the Center.  They will be entertained by strolling cabaret singers and comedic skits.  In addition, Shades of Gray, their resident jazz group will entertain, and dancing will be the order of the evening for celebrants.

Dress is described as "whatever you like", and there is a no-host bar available, but BYO is just fine.  What a great way to start 2014!

To reserve a space send an email to: info@piedmontcenterforthearts.org.  Enjoy!

The city of Piedmont is offering this program at no cost.  Registration is simple.  Just go to the CodeRED site and provide your name, address and phone number, and, if you wish, your e-mail contact information.  Details: http://www.ci.piedmont.ca.us/?p=698. You can…

Begun in 1903, utilizing 4 car trains, the Key System collected passengers from all over the East Bay and took them to ferry piers in Berkeley, and later Oakland, for their final passage by water to San Francisco.

The term "Key System" came from the concept of the image of a key with three loops at the top, a shaft for the key which was the system's pier, and the teeth of the key was seen as the various ferry berths at the end of these piers. The three loops were the cities of Berkeley, Oakland and Piedmont.
