Touches of Julia
Morgan are all over this 1912 home. Built for Charles Sutton, the
property is centrally located between Grand Ave and Piedmont Ave. A
brass chandelier with milky glass lampshades in the hallway rises above
the stained glass encased back entrance. The matte green tiled
fireplace with oak mantle in the elevated den is a special touch. On
over a 1/4 acre lot, the grounds have 3 mature palms and many fruit
trees with permitted plans for a 2 bedroom 2 bath maid's house adjacent
to the main home. Zoned R-70, the options are great with this home,
whether a single family home or four units or more, it currently has
four meters. The upstairs attic has been finished with a kitchen and
full bath to take full advantage of the Oakland downtown and San
Francisco bay views. Ample skylights allow the light in but offers
quite a bit of privacy as well because of its height. There are 7+
bedrooms and a fully finished basement with two sets of French doors
which open to the ample grounds. Transportation is convenient with
Highway 580 close by as well as a bus stop. Call me for more info 510-

1 Response to My new Julia Morgan listing in Oakland near the Piedmont border--554 Oakland Ave
A few years ago I relocated a nice young couple from CA who used to live on Piedmont Ave. I saw interior shots (and a couple of exterior shots) of the home they sold before they purchased their replacement property through me but didn't get a much of a feel from those photos what else the area consisted of. It's great to see this wonderful photo of another house in Oakland on the same street. What a cool old house rich with history and character! I'll bet it will attract a lot of interesting people who have a passion for the homes of yesteryear but who don't want to sacrifice anything. And from the sound of it, they won't have to sacrifice much of anything with this spectacular home. It really sounds like it has it all!
