If you have not yet discovered the family friendly First Friday events at the Oakland Museum of California, (OMCA), you are in for a treat. Â Where else can you combine food, fun, music and stunning arts and history in one place? Â Young or old, there is something for you to see and do.
While the theme changes each Friday, the basic format is the same. Â You can count on listening to, and dancing to, live music from different Bay area groups. Â The musical variety is amazing, and has included New Orleans, Funk, Salsa, Cuban, and more. Additionally, you can also count on hands-on art activities for children, and full access to all the museum galleries until 9:00 p.m.. To add enjoyment, there will be a brief pop up style tour of one of the galleries by docents each evening. Â
Food trucks are on hand just outside the museum to furnish local food favorites offering everything from sweets, to BBQ, to steaks to burgers. Â The final best benefit is that all First Friday events only charge half price admission for all, and ages 18 and under are free. Â
So, make plans to join the weekly activities from 5-9 p.m. every Friday night at the museum at 1000 Oak Street in Oakland. Â If you would like to learn more: Â FIRST FRIDAY OMCA EVENTSÂ Â Enjoy.
