Pill Hill Homes For Sale

Considering it's realtively small size, Oakland's Pill Hill Neighborhood is full of historic buildings and interesting stories, mostly revolving around education, medicine and religion.  Located on a slowly rising hill about Broadway, it was originally the home of The Pacific Female College and St. Mary's College.  Just before 1900, a very remarkable Gothic Revival Church was built on Telegraph Avenue.  Dedicated in 1893, St.Augustine's Episcopal Church, now one of the oldest Episcopal churches in continuous operation in Oakland, still serves it's congregation.  And, on the Broadway side of the hill, just a bit later was built Temple Sinai, which is the oldest Jewish congregation in Oakland. At the turn of the previous century, the beginning of the very modern Summit Campus of the Alta Base Medical Center began as the Samuel Merritt Hospital.
