Seminary Homes For Sale

As with many neighborhoods in Oakland, the Seminary Neighborhood experienced most of its growth between the World Wars.  Oakland, with the expanding use of  buses, trolleys, and autos began to move away from the central city into the developing neighborhoods east of the city core. Streets like East 14th and MacArthur Boulevard became direct routes to each new housing development.  Neighborhoods like Dimond, Oakmore, LaurelMaxwell Park, Millsmont, and more, grew and flourished.

Seminary Neighborhood Listings

Homes in the Seminary area reflect this time frame of the 1920's-1940's.  A wide variety of Mission/Spanish style homes, Craftsman/Bungalow, Tudor, and Cottage styles are there to be found.  Interestingly, the name for the neighborhood really reflects it's closeness to Mills College.  It seems that Seminary Avenue was used by the women students to get from the bayfront area of Oakland up to the college, which, in the early days was called "The Young Ladies' Seminary".

Its central location means that it is close to many popular family venues.  Example include the Oakland Zoo, The Chabot Space and Science Center, Redwood Regional Park, and the year round attractions of the Oakland Coliseum.
