Oakland's Jack London Square has become an amazing venue for both local and international visitors.  Sitting right on the Oakland Estuary, it is a collection of handsome restaurants, shops, and it's famous Sunday Farmer's Market.  It is also the starting off point for the San Francisco Ferry which will take passengers to the City or Marin county.  However, if you want to spend some leisure time on San Francisco Bay, the USS Potomac is the place for you.  There are no high speed trips across the water, just leisurely tours packed with lots of information.

One of the benefits of living in a cosmopolitan area like Oakland is the vital arts and music scene, that appears to be growing steadily as new venues open in the Uptown and Jack London Square area.

It is just a few days away-the annual Independence Day Parade in downtown Piedmont.  Make plans to bring comfortable seating, family and friends, and watch the passing parade.  The parade will start at 11:00 a.m. at the corner of Highland Avenue and Park Way.  One of the major appeals about the parade is that city neighborhoods and various community organizations are invited to enter to participate at no fee.  As a result, lots of Piedmont neighbors and imaginative floats will be passing by.

Mediterranean-style home at 630 Kenwyn Road on Haddon Hill in Oakland

When Piedmont residents and schoolchildren come to Mulberry's Market in downtown Piedmont to pick up a special treat or sandwich, they may not be aware that this market was named in honor of part of the historic events surrounding an amazing historical site in the city--the Piedmont Ladies' Silk Culture Club. Created during the era of the Arts and Crafts Movement, which stressed creative and imaginative artistic endeavors, it was located just a few blocks away from the market at the top of Oakland Avenue. 

At this site, were over 6000 mulberry trees, and a two story building in which more than 100 women worked spinning the thread that came from the cocoons that grew among these mulberry trees.  It was in fact, the first factory in Piedmont, and the…

Here is a chance for Piedmont residents to support Piedmont High School, and have a pleasant time doing so!  On Monday, October 11th, the Piedmont High School Boosters will be presenting its 2013 Highlander Classic Golf and Tennis Tournament.  It will be held at the Claremont Country Club in Oakland, beginning at 11:00 a.m.. This event offers  a great opportunity to play golf or tennis with your friends and neighbors, and, at the same time, provide important funding for PHS athletic programs as well as the PHS Study Hall Program.

Tomorrow, September 29th, is a big day for Piedmont families and their friends.  It is the date of the annual Harvest Festival, and is held right in the center of town, and an easy walk or bike ride for most of those attending. It is packed with events from morning to afternoon designed to appeal to all ages and interests. 

Starting bright and early are the growing and cooking contests, where residents are encouraged to compete by entering items that were home grown within the boundaries of Piedmont, and another contest to present recipes based around foods that can be grown, or were grown, within Piedmont. For those who are interested in these wonderful foods, there will also be a Farmers Market with all kinds of choices starting at 10:30 a.m..

Tomorrow morning, September 28th, many Piedmont families and their friends will be participating in the 2013 PUSD Wellness Center Fall Fest 5k Run.  This "just right" sized run is ideal for children as well as seniors. Additionally, participants can run or walk the route.

 To encourage a wide range of entrants, the top 3 male and female finishers in each age category will be receiving medals, and additionally, there will be prizes for overall first 3 male and first 3 female finishers.  There are a broad range of categories, beginning with age 8 and under, and moving on up to runners 60+years old.
