When buying your home in the Oakland Rockridge area, or the Redwood Heights, or even the Trestle Glen area, you will find that some things are common among all home purchases.  It is important that you place yourself in the best possible position to purchase the home that you decide you want to have.  Here are some suggestions to put you at the top of the list:

1. Do All Your Financial Homework First--Make sure that you have enough funds to qualify for that purchase.  The rule of thumb followed by most lenders is that your total debts including housing costs, should be no more that 38% of your gross income(before taxes), and your ultimate housing debt alone should be no more than 33% of your gross income(before taxes). While there are other issues, these are the most basic figures to start with.

2. Find An Experienced Real Estate Agent To Help You--The purchase of a home is becoming more complicated every year, especially in the present economy.  I am a qualified agent who has been over this path many times before, and can guide you along the simplest route. I can aid you with all that you need, from qualifying tips, to helping you find and view the homes that meet your needs, to assisting you through the maze of paperwork, offers and counteroffers.

3. Be Prepared to Act--Once you have decided on a home that you want, you must be prepared to act quickly.  It is a simple fact that the reasonably priced quality homes will move quickly, because they are the best on the market.  Don't select homes that you can't purchase immediately, and be prepared to make some concessions on these specially valued homes.

4. Consider Future Resale Value--As part of your decision making process, and with my assistance helping you with neighborhood values, you should always consider what your potential home will be worth in the immediate future.  The average first time buyer only stays in their home about four years, so it is an important issue in your decision to purchase.  Is the neighborhood trending up or down in resale value?  Are there issues coming up that may affect that value?

While these are simple steps, they are some that will assure you that you will be ready to move ahead when that perfect home arrives.
