On Saturday and Sunday, October 25th and 26th, from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Oakland Zoo will be holding it's annual "Boo At The Zoo" event, which is always a popular time for families to enjoy the Zoo, and participate in Halloween activities at the same time.  This year, the program will be supplemented by the Bay Area Science Festival, who promise to add a scientific spin to many of the events.     Costumes are encouraged for everyone, and all children in costume from 2 to 14 years of age, will receive a free spooky train ride ticket.  To encourage costumes still more, there will be a costume parade at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. with Roosevelt, the Zoo mascot.

While long term Alameda residents may know about the small little home at the corner of Broadway and Crist, it always provides a bit of humor when they learn about the history surrounding it.  

Most visitors or Alamedans will pass it a trip to South Shore Center, or on their way to work, and not even know that it is there.  But, if they take a look at it closely, they will no doubt smile with amusement because of it's odd shape and tiny lot.

If you have not discovered the bargains and outstanding selections at the Dress Best For Less Store, you need to consider upping your shopping skills.  This outstanding resale store was established 30 years ago as a way of collecting and reselling high quality clothing and other household items to benefit the Piedmont Educational Foundation.  It has been a rousing success.  In September, 2013, DBFL donated $60,000 to the schools, and in May, 2014, the Foundation received $50,000.  Overall, in the last 30 years, DBFL activities have raised more than $1,000,000 for the PEF.
